15 Things to Do in New Braunfels In September

New Braunfels residents love that the town provides so much to see and do while still maintaining a great culture and small town feel. This month is no exception: fifteen of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels this month are described below. Hopefully, this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country outing a little easier!

1. Go to a Barbecue

The VFW is hosting the 6th Annual BBQ Cook Off on the Guadalupe the first weekend in September! For $7, eat some of the best barbecue around cooked by your neighbors and friends. All proceeds from this event will go to local scholarships that the VFW gives each year. Find more information here!

2. Audition for a Show

If you have the acting bug and want to see if you’re made for stage performance, audition for the “Legends of the West” Dinner Show. This is an audition calling all actors, singers, dancers, stuntmen, and aerialists for shows that are seasonal and year-round. If you make it into the program, pay is $100 per show! Excuse me while I warm up my vocal cords.

3. Stretch it Out with SUP Yoga

Love doing yoga and want to kick it up a notch? Head over to the Courtyard Marriott for a session of stand up paddleboard (SUP) yoga every Saturday morning and Thursday evening this month. For $45 (or $30 if you bring your own board), this limited spot class will provide you will all the tools you need to find your inner peace by stretching while floating on the water. 4. Wine and Run on Labor Day

Use that day off of work wisely and go for a breezy run at Dry Comal Creek Vineyards. Register here and have a friendly competition against your friends to see who can run a 5K the fastest. Truth be told, everybody wins, because Dry Comal Creek will be serving up wines and sangria at the finish line.

5. Have a Family Fun Day

Bring the family out to Fischer Park to enjoy loads of free family fun activities planned throughout the morning. On September 9th, every family member can learn the basics of archery. Knock the arrow, pull back the bow string, and try to hit the targets. Fun for all ages!

6. Compete in a Golf Tournament

7. See Blink-182 Live

This writer’s favorite band is playing in New Braunfels this month at the Whitewater Amphitheatre: Blink-182! A cultural icon for all late-90’s-angsty-teens, this band has defined a genre and risen to fame with songs like “All the Small Things,” “What’s My Age Again,” and “I Miss You.” Tickets are available here...and if you happen to see an all-too-happy writer jumping up and down to “The Rock Show” - it’s me.

8. See a Business Trade Show

The 29th Annual Business Trade Show is taking place September 12th and 13th at the Civic Convention Center and features the theme “Great Films of Hollywood”. More than 10 New Braunfels businesses will show off products and services that warrant your attention. The sneak preview is on Tuesday night and has a silent auction, complimentary food and drink, and entertainment. Tickets available here.

9. Have a Family Kickball Night

Grab the whole family for a night of kickball out at Camp Comal Softball Fields. This free event is put on to have families get together and have fun as a community while competing against friends and neighbors in the spirited schoolyard game of kickball. The rules will be adapted so it can be competitive for all skill levels.

10. Go on a Moonlit Date

11. Go Swing Dancing

The San Antonio Swing Dance Society is putting on a “Women of Jazz” event at the Phoenix Saloon on Saturday, September 23rd. The floor will be open for a night of swing dancing by the Dirty River Dixie Band. Tickets are available at the door or cheaper if you buy them online.

12. Have a Kids Night Out

15. Visit the County Fair

The Comal County Fair kicks off at the end of this month and is guaranteed to be a good time! This is an event that locals love to go to for its rides, rodeo, and of course, the chili cook offs. Your favorite Texas county fair events are all happening at the Comal County Fair (too many to list!) so make sure you go and make a day out of it!
