​Five Things to Do in New Braunfels (and Seguin!) This Weekend December 2-4

New Braunfels residents love that the town provides so much to see and do while still maintaining a great culture and small town feel. This weekend is no exception; there are a variety of different “things” happening in and around town. No need to research, five of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels this weekend are described below. Hopefully, this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!

It’s December and we are very excited about all of the fun holiday events happening in our area, so we decided to make this weekend’s event list all about the holiday fun!

Experience the Festival of Trees

This Friday in the Milltown Historic District is the Festival of Trees - an event with over 35 beautiful, unique, and traditional decorated Christmas Trees and more holiday fun! Visit Santa Claus, enjoy live holiday music, and even purchase a decorated tree. There is a silent auction happening to bid on the trees, and all proceeds benefit Seniors in Need through the Comal Senior Center and Central Texas Advocates for Seniors. This is a free event for anyone wanting to come, and there will be yummy baked goods available.

See the Pony Express in Gruene

This weekend in Historic Gruene, TX is the 15th annual Pony Express. The Pony Express riders from the Heritage Trail Ride Association of New Braunfels will come in at 10:00AM for locals to see. Relay riders carry a “Christmas Greetings” message from the Governor of Texas, and you can bring your Christmas cards to a temporary post office next to Gruene Outfitters to get your stamps cancelled with a commemorative Gruene, TX stamp. This is just the kind of fun our old and small town love to keep as tradition.

Watch a Christmas Play with a Twist

There is always something fun going on in the arts community of New Braunfels, and this weekend is no exception. The famous Charles Dickens play “A Christmas Carol” will be reimagined this weekend at the Grapevine. Award-winning stage actor Damian Gillen adds a little twist to this beloved play by portraying every character on stage. In this powerfully moving story, familiar characters like Scrooge and Tiny Tim and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future will give you that warm feeling of holiday magic. Complete with lots of costume changes, special effects, and Celtic Christmas music, this is a performance for the whole family!

Visit Santa’s Ranch

Want to enjoy some Christmas fun with the family but you don’t even have enough time to get out of the car? Santa’s Ranch has got all the holiday festivities for everyone, all without having to unbuckle the seatbelt. Watch the kid’s faces light up as you drive through beautiful Christmas displays, lighted gingerbread houses, nativity scenes, North Pole scenes, and more. The concession stand offers kettle corn, roasted pecans, hot cocoa, and other great Christmas treats. You can purchase your tickets at the gate, and there is even the opportunity to get a season pass if you’re thinking about going back.

See a Christmas Pageant in Seguin

Give yourself an early Christmas gift and head down to Seguin to see a children’s performance of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson at The Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre. Sheila Lucas is directing this group of great little actors in a holiday play sure to get everyone in the joyful spirit. Showtimes are at 7:00PM for Friday and Saturday and the matinee is 2:00PM on Sunday. Get your tickets here!
