If breakfast is your favorite meal, and/or you can’t form two complete sentences without at least one cup of freshly brewed coffee, this list is for you. Because if you’re able to pry yourself away from the comfort of your bed and launch into the early waking hours of the day, you deserve a little New Braunfels magic in your morning!
The Buttermilk Cafe

The Buttermilk Cafe is one of New Braunfels’ most popular breakfast spots in town for plenty of good reasons. For a sweet and savory meal, opt for the chicken and waffles. Or, if you’re into something more traditional, grab the cafe breakfast, which gets you a standard set of options for a classic big breakfast plate. There is a bit of a wait if you get there during typical breakfast hours, so prepare for that, but they will serve you some delicious coffee while you wait and prepare for the best food you’ll have all day!

The Palm Breakfast will get you pancakes, eggs, pappas, beans, and barbacoa, bringing a variety of flavor to the table that you wouldn’t normally see at breakfast. At this little hole in the wall, you can get breakfast all day at amazing prices. Go for the breakfast tacos and make your own!

Union Station Diner
Union Station Diner is located in the historic district of New Braunfels where the “friendly folks meet and eat.” Another prime spot for cheap eats, Union Station has got all your favorites on the menu. We recommend getting a custom omelet or a Belgian waffle. Don’t try to come here after 2:30 pm, because this place shuts down for the day.

The Downtowner is a great option if you want breakfast-style foods without having to wake up early. They are serving up farm fresh eggs, locally sourced vegetables, grass-fed ground beef, single-origin coffee, and a fantastic variety of proteins that will make your heart hum with excitement. They have got discounts on every food and beverage that hails from the state of Texas, and they offer happy hour deals that are worth checking out! We are currently salivating over their Chicken Biscuit Sandwich with Honey Butter, which is a shout out to all the Whataburger fans who can’t get that sandwich during the day.

Hanna’s Kitchen
Hanna’s Kitchen is one of those places that you might miss if you aren’t looking for it. This charming little hole-in-the-wall has a simple menu with just the basics. Make Hanna’s your breakfast taco stop because each day of the week they offer a $1 Taco special with homemade hot sauce and handmade flour tortillas. A lot of reviews about this place say that the Carne Guisada tacos are a must, so next time you’re passing by Hanna’s, make sure to pull over and grab some delicious tacos.

After nearly 150 years of operation, Naegelin’s Bakery is one of the oldest continuously operating bakeries in the state of Texas. If you’re looking for something sweet to go with your coffee, pop into the bakery for a quick pastry. The Granzin family still runs this place, and they strive to maintain a blend of consistency, quality, and legacy into their baked goods every day. I can’t write about Naegelin’s without recommending a strudel or a kolache for a breakfast bite. Beyond breakfast, they have delicious desserts and more!

Los Gallos Taco House
Los Gallos Taco House is rated a Reader’s Choice in 2015 by the Herald-Zeitung Newspaper and ranked in the top ten for Hill Country Mexican restaurants by TexasHillCountry.com. We Texans can hardly escape the desire for Mexican food, even in the early hours of the morning. Our bodies have adapted to our environment, and we crave dishes like huevos rancheros, migas, and the coveted chorizo...all of which are available at Los Gallos. True to form, there are tacos of any variety available at Los Gallos, but make sure you peruse their extensive menu before landing on your order - there are too many good choices!
